How to Check on the Elderly Without Exposing them to COVID-19

Coronavirus (COVID-19) has been the biggest news of the year for 2020 if not the century, and its impact on the world is still unfolding. People of all ages are becoming sick, and while symptoms seem to vary between ages it is certain that the older community is most greatly impacted. Keeping the older community safe is very important, but with the virus spreading so fast how do we keep an eye on our loved ones without accidentally infecting them?

The COVID-19 virus is thought to have originated from a possible cross-species jump in late 2019 in Wuhan, China.  The virus is believed to have similar symptoms to the flu in children and adults and is nonlethal in most cases. The incubation period for COVID-19 is believed to be up to 2 weeks-meaning you may have no symptoms and still be contagious.  The COVID-19 can be transmitted by people who don’t know they have it, which is why the number of infected people is growing exponentially every day.

During this incubation period, you may think you’re 100% healthy, but if you visit an elderly friend or relative, you might unknowingly put them at serious risk of infection.

This is where the paradox lies: How can you check on your elderly loved ones to make sure they are alright without visiting them in person and potentially exposing them to coronavirus?  Let’s be honest, calling them every few hours to check in on them will drive you all insane.

There are other options to discreetly check in on them--some less ideal than others. For instance, telling your 87-year-old mom that you want to install a camera to monitor her like a sleeping baby, might not be well received.  Luckily there are better options.

Nanny Cams are cameras that are disguised in a household item such as a USB phone charger, a wall clock, a weather station, a picture frame or even a DIY nanny camera kit that can turn any household object into a nanny camera that streams live video to your smartphone. Setting one up is easy, only requiring WIFI.  Simply set up the camera with the WIFI network, and then stream video and audio on your phone no matter where you are.

Nanny cameras have been around almost as long as standard cameras, and they are one of the most effective ways to watch over your house and your loved ones without making them feel like they’re being watched.
