Dash cam captures goose striking power line, ruins transformer

MUSKEGON, MI -- A driver in Muskegon caught an unexpected accident with his dash cam Sunday morning, but not the type you typically see on the road. A video shared on Youtube shows what happened when a goose collided with a power line, causing it to fry the goose and shut down power in the area. In the video, the driver approaches a red light and slows down to stop. As the driver comes to a halt, you can see a flash of light as the power surges above the car. According to Consumers Energy spokesperson Roger Morgenstern, the outage occurred at 6:30 a.m. Sunday and affected power for approximately 4,500 customers in the area Apple Avenue at Creston Street. Power was fully restored to those customers shortly after 11 a.m. Sunday. The goose struck a 7,200-volt line, according to Morgenstern, which tripped off a transformer bank at the substation.
